General Comments

The gold breasted waxbills were friendly finches who always seemed to wanted to breed.  The male would become aggressive when he was courting the female.  We finally decided to trade them for other finches with a local breeder.

Social Habits

Activity Comments
Gets along well with
  • were quite timid, but made friends with the red eared and rosy rumped waxbills
Does not get along with
  • the male gold breasted waxbill disliked these two birds from the very start and chased them when every chance they came near him
  • the red cheeked cordon bleu waxbills also did not care for their company. The CBs were observed chasing the strawberries away from food sources if the CBs happened to be nearby

Courtship

This pair always courted, and the male became aggressive and territorial when courting.
