Lighting Natural sun light and when needed, 2 heat lamps during the cold days of winter.
Special Design Features We started by pruning a 44 year old large rhododendron tree, and creating around it, by connecting to the side wall of our carport. We made the frame 6 feet wide across the top, 8 feet tall, from the ground up, and 18 feet along the outside, leaving a space to add a door. We then started unrolling a very large roll of small chicken wire screen, starting at the top, and attached to the carport wall, working our way across, cutting strips to fit, and stapling with a electric staple gun. We also enclosed the bottom of aviary with chicken wire to keep rodent from digging in underneath. The roof was then lapped over with corrugated roofing material. We use glazed terra-cotta plant bottoms for food and water dishes, and add 2 heat lamps during the cold days of winter.
Number and Types of Finches Housed in Aviary at Time of Photo Approximately 40 finches of mixed color to date (beginning was based on 2 Society Finches and 2 Zebra Finches),10 White Doves, and 2 Button Quail.
